Like parents, we feel good – even extraordinary – when the children NEED us. When they come to us for guidance or affection. All these are good things. However, it is necessary to remind ourselves that the purpose of long-term parenting is to guide children from being completely dependent on us to be adults who think and act independently. It is not an easy task that happens overnight.
